Police shoot armed woman to death in South LA
LAPD officer Laurie Guillen told CBS Los Angeles, “No matter what the sentiment is, pro-police or anti-police, they’re going to strap on those boots and secure that gun bout and they’re going to go out there and suppress crime, and they’re going to treat the community with respect”.
The second location was where two police officers responded to reports of an unruly woman armed with a knife, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Paramedics were dispatched at 9:42 a.m.to a “reported shooting” call in the 2100 block of South San Pedro Street.
As the crowd marched, motorists, including patrol officers and firefighters, honked their horns and used sirens.
The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
“There’s far too much negative junk directed at officers who keep us safe from anarchy”, said Strongwolf, who would identify herself only as a police officer.
“Our understanding is that both officers discharged their weapons”, police Sgt. Frank Preciado told The Times.
Police said the officers were wearing body cameras and the video from those cameras will be examined as part of the investigation into the shooting.
There is also additional video footage taken from a security camera in the area that will be looked at, he said.
According to the Los Angeles Times, this is the third fatal LAPD officer-involved shooting this month, and that LAPD officers have shot 31 people this year, 17 of whom were killed.
The officer-involved shooting was being investigated by the LAPD’s Force Investigation Division and Inspector General’s office, Lopez said.
