I love Muslims, they’re great people
Donald Trump on Saturday commented on his failure to correct an audience member at a campaign rally who said Barack Obama was a Muslim.
Trump also said on “Meet the Press” Sunday that some people have said the country has already had it’s first Muslim president, referring to Obama. They asked whether the billionaire businessman would consider putting a Muslim in his Cabinet or on his ticket.
As for the question of whether Muslims are a problem for this country, Trump stated that yes the United States does have problems with some Muslim groups, but continuing said, “You look around the world, it’s a problem”.
Obama, who is a Christian, was previously the target of Trump when the real estate tycoon in 2012 questioned whether the president is even a US citizen. “They ask that question and I just want to talk about the things because it’s of no longer interest to me”. “I think you’ll be very surprised”.
The CNN/ORC poll showed Trump continues to lead the Republican contest with the support of 24 percent of registered voters, down from 32 per cent in a previous poll.
“No”, Trump replied. “I would have probably just – I listened to his question. I have no problem with that”, Trump said. Speaking in Michigan Friday night, Bush said, “By the way, [Obama’s] an American, he’s a Christian”.
Many presidential candidates – Democrat and Republican – criticized him for the incident.
“What I think the American people are interested in is not the food fight that reporters are trying to stir up”, Cruz said.
He followed with, “If I would have challenged the man, the media would have accused me of interfering with that man’s right of free speech”.
“It’s something that at some point could happen”. Sixteen Republicans are seeking the party’s nomination for the United States presidential election in November 2016. Asked if he considered Islam to be consistent, he said: “No, I do not”.
In 2008, Republican and former Secretary of State Colin Powell denounced racism in the GOP, saying that the “really right answer” to questions about whether President Obama is a Muslim was “What if he is?”
Trump also said he has friends who are Muslims – but that the religion’s extreme elements are responsible for terrorist attacks.
PELLEY: “A problem in this country and it’s Muslims”. “You know, a lot of people are saying that, and a lot of people are saying that bad things are happening out there”, Trump responded.
