Hyundai recalls 2011-2012 Sonatas
Hyundai is recalling damn near half a million cars! This can cause an oil flow restriction causing failure in rod bearings.
Hyundai said it will replace the engines for free. Hyundai has issued two separate recall campaigns for the Sonata and Accent, resolving respective defects with certain engines and a brake-light switch.
Warranties will be expanded to 10 years or 120,000 miles if Sonata cars will need a new engine assembly. And that, as some of you unfortunately know, is a recipe for disaster. In this case, the engine can stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
Hyundai recalls Sonata to prevent engine fires and recalls Accent for brake light switch from hell. While that sounds like a lighting problem, its repercussions could be far more dire.
The recalled 2011-2012 Sonata vehicles were manufactured December 11, 2009, to April 12, 2012, and again, the recall affects only 2-liter and 2.4-liter gas direct injection engines. All affected vehicles were built at Hyundai’s Alabama plant.
What Owners Should Do: Hyundai will begin notifying owners on November,2; owners will receive a second notification later when parts become available. The safety campaign number the owner should note prior to calling the NHTSA is #15V566000.
