John Oliver reunites ‘Days of Our Lives’ couple for young Syrian refugee
After a lengthy hiatus, John Oliver at the team at Last Week Tonight returned on Sunday to cover the ongoing refugee crisis in Europe.
The segment goes on to consider some of the official immigration documents European countries are distributing to refugees, which include return dates as late as 2020.
The FOX News reporter clarified, “We’re not saying any of those people are terrorists or in any way affiliated with a terror group, but it does highlight just how many of these refugees who are fleeing violence in Iraq and Syria are Muslim”.
“Here in the U.S., some in the media have chosen to reduce the migrant population to one single stereotype”, he adds, before showing a Fox News clip featuring the misleading caption, “Terrorists Inbound?”
Among the refugee stories is 16-year-old Noujain Mustaffa, a Syrian girl who made the crossing from Turkey to Greece in her wheelchair because she has been disabled since birth. Not only did we learn that she dreams of being an astronaut who will one day meet an alien and the Queen of England, but we also found out that she learned how to speak English by watching the daytime soap opera Days of Our Lives. “Every country has a different application process and some are totally overwhelmed and underfunded”.
Unless of course, they go to Germany. “The maddening thing is Europe doesn’t even need to do this for good reasons”. “That’s right, amazingly, one of the warmest welcomes offered to immigrants comes from Germany”. Host John Oliver examined some of the more outrageous developments in the migrant crisis now taking place in Europe, and he did so with a little help from some Days of Our Lives characters you probably didn’t think you’d see on TV together ever again.
