Netflix Has Created An Actual ‘Netflix and Chill’ Button
This isn’t the simplest project, but that’s part of its mystique What better way to impress your Netflix and Chillee than pressing a single, handmade button that turns your living room into a Grace and Frankie marathon for two.
The chunky button (which you would absolutely have to mash with your fist – the only way to actuate such a switch) at once starts up Netflix on your TV, dims the lights, silences incoming phone calls and orders takeout.
“You should be comfortable with a soldering iron and have a solid understanding of electronics and programming before embarking on your journey to one-switch watching” says Netflix. The button, dubbed “The Switch”, makes it easier than ever to “Netflix and chill” and already has become known by that term (internet slang for hooking up in front of the TV).
So how does it work?
The small device, although it features just one bug button, is in fact powered by a Particle Core that features an Arduino-compatible development kit that features onboard WiFi. Well you’ll need to be a little tech savvy to build it, but the final result could be a serious boon to your Netflix-and-chill sessions.
Netflix has created the Netflix Switch, a smart home button that – once pressed – will dim your lights (if you use smart bulbs) and fire up the streaming media app for immediate viewing.
At the moment the Netflix button is under works, and the company engineers still accept suggestions on what the next build should contain, and maybe it will get even more user friendly for those who don’t really have the patience to tweak the hell out of their home electronics.
