Davis’ home run leads to Brewers victory over Cardinals
St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Carlos Martinez is expected to miss the remainder of the 2015 season after suffering a strain of his right shoulder, according to a club announcement.
In 31 games (29 starts) this season, Martinez, 24, is 14-7 with a 3.01 earned run average, 184 strikeouts and 63 walks in 179 2/3 innings pitched.
Lyons will pitch for Carlos Martinez, who is out for the year with a strained shoulder suffered Friday against Milwaukee. The Cardinals entered Saturday with a three-game lead and eight games remaining, and could potentially alter the rotation for the upcoming series at second-place Pittsburgh that starts Monday.
The Cardinals finished 55-26 at home, tops in the major leagues.
Milwaukee starter Tyler Cravy left after three innings, yielding a hit and three walks while fanning two. Brewers win 8-4. But he struck out Hernan Perez to end the inning and keep the game tied 1-1. Smith got his seventh win, and Brewers closer Francisco Rodriguez allowed no chances for the Cardinals, stranding one runner, for his 36 save.
Lackey has provided the Cardinals with stability down the stretch, allowing six runs in 28 1/3 innings across four September starts and winning his last two outings.
Randal Grichuk has jacked 17 homers in 307 at-bats despite missing three weeks with a right elbow inflammation, rising from a fourth outfielder role to a feared power bat.
That’s all I got for the good news, folks. St. Louis manager Mike Matheny and a trainer went out to examine Martinez and pulled him. Reed moved up to third on Jean Segura’€™s groundout and scored when Jonathan Lucroy singled to left. He was sent back down to the Minors for fine tuning and that he has done.
He had a 2.25 ERA and 1.149 WHIP in 152.1 innings at Double-A Biloxi. So what transpired for the rookie back in May, he has honed his skill on the mound. I have to make that play. He was excellent for his eight or so starts that he was in Biloxi. First pitch: 6:15 CST. “We got down early and the bullpen did a really nice job”. Ace Adam Wainwright, who threw a second simulated game earlier Saturday, is not under consideration for the postseason rotation because there isn’t enough time to build up his strength.
Lackey (13-9, 2.74 ERA) is 11-4 with a 2.06 ERA in 21 home starts since being acquired from Boston before last year’s trade deadline.
