Lush reunite for first gig in nearly 20 years
Before all that though, their long term label 4AD are planning a few goodies for those not familiar with the band (not forgetting those who feel the need to compulsively collect their material of course). The group are to play London’s Roundhouse on Friday 6 May 2016.
As a sucker for shoegaze and miasmic music, I’ve always had a soft spot for Lush, the London band that flared briefly in the late 80s and early 90s before they were drowned out by grunge and Britpop.
As the band hinted at last week, and as we predicted was likely, shoegazing legends Lush have confirmed their reunion today.
Having officially disbanded in 1998 following the tragic suicide of their drummer, Chris Acland, the quartet announced the news of their return via their Facebook page, saying, “For all the fans who have been pestering us to do this: thanks so much for your patience and support!”
“We’ve been away for ages and ages, but we’re really excited to announce that we’re finally ready to reform as Lush”, the act wrote in their statement. The limited edition box set will be released at the beginning of December, dependent on territory, and preceded by the worldwide vinyl reissue of Lush’s “Best Of” compilation Ciao! in November.
In a press release, frontwoman Miki Berenyi says, “The opportunities and practicalities of reforming Lush meant that for 20 years it was an impossible undertaking”.
The band are known for hits including “Ladykillers“, “For Love” and “De-luxe”. Chorus will include their early compilation, Gala, the studio albums Spooky, Split and Lovelife, and the B-sides compilation Topolino, plus unreleased tracks.
