Airline Passenger Fined After Mistaking Plane Door for Bathroom

Gray maintains it was all a misunderstanding and says he would never intentionally try to open the door of a plane.

James Gray has been banned from flying with the airline KLM for five years, and earned himself a €600 fine, because he tried to open a plane’s exit door mid-flight thinking it was the entrance to the toilet.

According to reports in the MailOnline, Grey, who is from Scotland, was escorted from the flight the moment it touched down.

Mr Gray was reportedly led away from the plane in handcuffs and had to spend the night in a cell, despite “trying to explain it was a simple mistake”.

At 30,000 feet, Gray mistook an airplane door for a restroom. The police came and arrested me. “They weren’t too friendly”, Gray told the Telegraph.

But when he went to fly home he said KLM staff refused to let him on board and said he was banned from flying with them for five years.

He managed to return home after borrowing from a friend to pay for his travelling expenses with a rival airline after the fine wiped out his holiday funds.

“I was charged and fined €600”, he said.

A spokesman for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines said: “After the flight the passenger was handed over to the Royal Police at Schiphol because of his misbehavior on board”.
