Netflix Acquires Shows From CBS, USA, CW

Netflix is firing another salvo in the licensing wars, announcing deals today that will make it the exclusive streaming platform for the CBS hits “Jane The Virgin” and “Zoo“.

“Netflix bought the rights to “Colony” before the U.S. drama even hit television screens, showing that it could already be a great show, according to Variety”. In the article, Sarandos says, “We are a big buyer, and these guys are in the business of making and monetizing content.”.

Netflix is just another step closer to World Domination, as it has been confirmed that the streaming giant has picked up exclusive worldwide streaming rights to three brand new shows. In 2014, Netflix spent about $3.7 billion of content, making the 2016 mark up about 62 percent.

This is on the back of the Epix deal Netflix just ended, which will see popular movie titles like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Star Trek Into Darkness move to Hulu next month. It is now available on Netflix but only in the United States.

For those who dont know, Netflix Originals like Orange is the New Black and Daredevil are not actually owned and created by Netflix.

“Netflix is the flawless service to stream “Colony” after its initial broadcast in all countries outside North America, whether allowing fans to catch up with their favorite show before the new season airs or enticing new fans to the series”. While that was commissioned as an original Netflix series, content owners are increasingly keen to partner with Netflix on their off-network deals due to its vast reach, while realizing that Netflix’s popularity is also a factor in the decreased ratings of linear programming.
