Konami: We’re Still Committed to Console Gaming, Metal Gear Can Continue
With the reported closure of Kojima Productions and recent rumours of Konami’s move toward the mobile gaming platform, fans of the company’s franchise were left wondering if the Phantom Pain would be the last Metal Gear title to be seen on consoles.
Day explained that Konami had already said in the past that Metal Gear will continue to exist, adding that this will happen even without Hideo Kojima.
Earlier this month, however, a report by French website Gameblog claimed that the new Metal Gear is not “actually being prepared at any level whatsoever”, and suggested that PES is the only AAA franchise now in development at Konami.
I hope it’s true, because Metal Gear Solid V would serve as the ideal template for the series to continue under different people. He was asked if it was possible Metal Gear Solid can continue without Hideo Kojima.
Later on in the video, Day addressed the report that Konami is shifting its focus towards mobile development.
“Things have been taken out of context but that’s never changed”.
“Mobile gaming has a future and that has potential”.
Both have stated that Konami are committed to core console gaming.
The Konami rep responded to a reddit User saying that the publisher was definitely not turning its back on the console AAA game market, as speculated by the press. Mind, all of these are rumors, but they’re rumors with some meat behind them and given Konami’s tight-lipped nature on the actual events occurring behind their doors, it’s hard not to believe that there isn’t truth to them. If I was to use a tagline, PES 2016’s tagline is ‘Love the past, play the future.’ And that is there for a reason. The future isn’t ending now.
