EKU Football player killed in Madison County crash
State police said an off-duty Richmond firefighter discovered Kraemer on Sunday morning. He transferred this year after a redshirt season at UTEP.
EKU plays at Kentucky this week, and the rival university plans to honor Kraemer during the playing of “My Old Kentucky Home” on Saturday.
“He was a team above self guy, and he was a tireless worker, and he loved the game of football, and that was evident as we were recruiting him”, said Coach Dean Hood.
WLEX-TV, the NBC affiliate in Lexington, reported Joseph Kraemer, 19, from Ohio was killed when he hit a tree and went over an embankment on Tates Creek Road near Shallow Ford Road.
Funeral arrangements were still pending at the time of Eastern Kentucky’s announcement. Lourdes says Kraemer was “filled with faith and love”, and, “kind to a fault”.
“Our Colonel family is hurting today”, President Michael Benson said. He was considered a 3-star defensive end by 247Sports coming out of high school, starring at Archbishop Alter in Dayton, Ohio. “Please join me in expressing our sympathies to the Kraemer family in this time of sorrow”. We offer our deepest sympathy to his family, friends and teammates.
