Beyond the Playbook: Bills allow Brady to set passing record
The Patriots handled the Bills 40-32, and it really wasn’t that close.
Ryan acknowledged after the game that Belichick was the better coach on the field. They committed 14 penalties and lost their composure.
In their 40-32 dismantling of the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, the New England Patriots outmanned and out-schemed a Bills pass defense that, just a week prior, shut down Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts. “But it’s great to be 2-0”.
The 466 yards marked the most passing yards the Bills have allowed in their 55-year history.
Julian Edelman had 11 catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns.
New England Patriots’ Dion Lewis, right, celebrates with Rob Gronkowski (87) after rushing for a touchdown during the first half of an NFL football game against the Buffalo Bills, Sunday, September 20, 2015, in Orchard Park, N.Y. They have guys who at least can stick with Gronkowski and make sure he isn’t open on every play.
But the Pats’ defense was equally impressive. “We did that especially in the first half”.
Buffalo Bills tight end Charles Clay (85) breaks a tackle by New…
Taylor also ran for 43 yards on five carries, including a 7-yard score. The results were not revealed and fans began heading for the exits in the final minute of the third quarter, after Gostkowski hit a 50-yard field goal to up New England’s lead to 37-13.
Buffalo had too many breakdowns, too many meltdowns and gave up too many touchdowns against the defending Super Bowl champs. If his first two games were any indication, he’s getting better with age. “So obviously, there’s a million of negative things we’ve got to get corrected”. Afterwards Rex Ryan was predictably humbled, took the blame for the loss and said he got “outcoached” by Bill Belichick. It’s on my shoulders. I think that’s what makes a great teammate. But we did a horse [bleep] job and it’s my responsibility.
“What stands out is all the penalties”.
“We can’t control what they do, ” Bills defensive back Nickell Robey said. But if he had shown up earlier, they wouldn’t need to come back from 24 points down.
But it wasn’t just the 14 penalties, it was their nature.
Ryan also drew one for mouthing off to an official. “I still believe in this team and we all have tremendous belief in the things that we can do, but moving forward, we have to play cleaner football”.
Veteran DT Kyle Williams, a multi-year captain for the team, was disappointed by all the infractions that had nothing to do with player effort on the field.
The Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady explained their game-winning approach.
“If you have no poise, no focus, you get caught up in all the BS and that’s what they do”.
He added, “I’m embarrassed”. “The way that started off was bad”. Their play selection looked like that of a high school team, running when they could, passing when they had to. He’s always been good, but through two games that aspect of his game seems to be even better than it’s been over the last few seasons when he’s dealt with injuries.
Ryan: “I am recognizing we have got to have that controlled emotion, and that aggression and things like that”.
