Martin Skrtel: ‘Danny Ings leaves defenders exhausted’
Martin Skrtel has lauded the Englishman’s contribution in training, praising his work-rate and clever movement.
The 23-year-old scored his first competitive goal for the club in their draw against Norwich City before also netting against Carlisle United in the League Cup.
“Sturridge’s finishing deserves the accolades but a lot of it comes from Ings”, Carragher told Sky Sports. That’s where the chances are coming from.
Before his arrival, Liverpool fans thought Ings a hard worker who potentially lacked the highest quality, but at 23-years-old, he’s showing the potential to be much more than that.
Sturridge, meanwhile, has scored 42 times for Liverpool since joining the Anfield club two seasons ago.
The England global marked his second appearance after five months out following hip surgery with a classy double against Villa.
Having started Liverpool’s last three games, Ings could be rested for Thursday’s Europa League visit of Swiss side Sion with the striker now favourite to partner Daniel Sturridge in next Sunday’s Goodison derby. He makes a difference at that end of the pitch.
The impact of Ings has come as no surprise to Skrtel, who playing against him twice last season.
“If Sturridge is at his best, if he can stay fit, like the Sturridge we saw when Liverpool nearly won the league (in the 2013-14 season), if you look around the top teams, there’s only Aguero you’d have before him”.
