Massive pay-day for FedEx Cup champion Jordan Spieth

Jordan Speith creamed this exceptional season with $22 million and propelled himself to World No. 1, earning a record prize money from this PGA 2015 winnings and topping it with a $10 million bonus from the FedEx Cup.

“This year is unreal”, said Spieth, who in addition to his two major victories finished tied for fourth at the British Open and runner-up to Day at the PGA Championship.

Jordan Spieth capped off his historic PGA Tour season with an $11.485 million victory on Sunday.

Spieth took a one-shot lead over Stenson into Sunday’s final round and doubled his advantage with a birdie on the second, but then bogeyed the fifth and sixth and threw his ball into the water on the latter after a rare three-putt. And, of course, he’d be the youngest player to win both the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup.

The tournament victory, Spieth’s fifth of the year – including two majors – was worth $1,485,000 and allowed the Texan to set a PGA Tour record with $12,030,465 in winnings.

The 22-year-old Spieth, who won the U.S. Open and Masters this year, also reclaimed the world number one ranking as Jason Day faltered.

With Stenson again within a few feet of the hole on the 11th, Spieth holed a curling birdie putt from 45 feet to maintain his two-shot cushion, Stenson looking at the American with a mixture of admiration, resignation and no doubt more than a little irritation.

That three-putt hole seemed to jolt Spieth into action, and he coaxed his famed putter to start behaving properly. He showed up Monday morning and was the first player on the practice range at East Lake.

Stenson is carrying plenty of scar-tissue – he must be wondering whether he is losing some of his bottle as a 40 birthday looms large – and the last person he needs to be facing in a final-round shootout today is Spieth.

He missed the cut at the first two FedEx Cup events in a rare lapse, but has battled back in typical style to claim the prestigious end of season honor.

“I know that we can play at this level, even when we don’t have our best stuff and it gives me a lot of confidence going forward for the next 20 years”.

They only do that at the majors, and Spieth approached the Tour Championship that way.

Danny Lee and England’s Justin Rose finished tied alongside the Swede, while Paul Casey, Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson finished T5. “So I don’t need tomorrow to justify it. I’m not going to sit here and say $10 million doesn’t mean anything to me, because it does”.
