Joel Embiid needs another foot surgery, likely out for 2015

Philadelphis 76ers center Joel Embiid, who missed the entire 2014-15 National Basteball Association season with a right foot injury, will likely miss all of next season, as mentioned by a newspaper report Saturday.

Pompey reports the Sixers are “planning as if Embiid won’t play”, and that the franchise is worried that the injury could threaten Embiid’s career. “Just think how long they sat him when they thought he was healthy”. But considering how many 7-footers’ careers foot injuries have ended, Embiid’s latest setback is a huge blow to the 76ers rebuilding effort. While at Kansas, Embiid missed the Big 12 and NCAA Tournaments with a stress fracture in his back, prior to the pre-draft foot surgery.

Shortly before last month’s draft, the Sixers announced that Embiid’s recovery from his first surgery had not gone as planned and he suffered a setback.

Fast forward to now, the Cameroonian native is facing his second surgery in two years, and zero National Basteball Association games under his belt.

According to The Inquirer, the Sixers are expected to release a statement about Embiid’s immediate future in the coming days. “A number of meetings are happening about that, even one today”.

Fortunately for Philadelphia, the Sixers are pretty well-equipped to handle another Embiid-less year. But we have meetings almost every day about that. A talented and athletic big man, Embiid was expected to man a Philadelphia front court that already featured the promising Nerlens Noel and was welcoming No. 3 overall pick Jahlil Okafor into the fold this year.
