WSDOT: New I-405 toll lanes open without a hitch
KING COUNTY- Drivers can bypass traffic jams on I-405 with the opening of the Express Toll Lanes in between Lynnwood and Bellevue.
“It’s going to be really good for drivers on 405 to be able to take advantage of these lanes and get an opportunity to buy their way out of congestion”, said WSDOT Director of Toll Operations Patty Rubstello.
Drivers need to do not forget to use the access points to enter the express lanes. These ramps are at Northeast Sixth Street in Bellevue and Northeast 128th Street in Kirkland.
The majority of those warnings were for motorists crossing the double white line that separates the toll lanes from the regular lanes of traffic, according to the state patrol. The WSP wants to help commuters have a better understanding of the new rules associated with the I-405 Express Toll Lanes. As with other, similar projects around the country, volumes in express toll lanes will likely be low during the first few months, but then increase over time. He will be monitoring any issues along the tolling route throughout the morning.
On Sunday, Webb said he saw many drivers cross the double white lines on the roadway, which is not allowed.
“Drivers should remain alert and exercise caution when entering and exiting the express toll lanes, said Stone”.
Express toll lane trip information will not appear in customer accounts or in the Good To Go! system for several days. Drivers with two passengers and a Flex Pass can drive for free.
Troopers are giving drivers a “grace period” while they learn to navigate the new pay lanes.
Toll rate signs will display destinations and toll rates, and new carpool occupancy and Flex Pass requirements will be in effect. An animated video gives an example of what a trip may look like in the express toll lanes.
