Arizona linebacker Scooby Wright out for multiple weeks with foot injury
Arizona All-American linebacker Scooby Wright is out again after spraining his right foot against UCLA on Saturday, his first game back after suffering a left knee injury.
Rodriguez said the injury diagnosis was actually good news and were thinking about a potential medical redshirt for Wright who won the Nagurski, Lombardi and Bednarik as the nation’s top defender past year en route to being a consensus All-American.
“Having Scooby out several weeks is something we’re going to have to deal with”, Rodriguez said via the Arizona Daily Star.
Rodriguez had feared that Wright’s foot was broken, but an MRI revealed it was sprain.
Wright tied for the team lead in tackles (7) against the Bruins, but his performance was not almost as impactful as we’re used to seeing from the gifted linebacker.
Wright suffered a knee injury in the Wildcats season opener that forced him to miss three weeks of action.
Wright was one of the most dominant players in college football on either side of the ball last season, but the 21-year-old star has struggled to stay on the field in 2015 thus far.
Also, Arizona quarterback Anu Solomon suffered a concussion against UCLA and is day-to-day, according to Rodriguez. The Wildcats visit Stanford Saturday, host Oregon State Oct. 10, visit Colorado 17, host Washington State Oct. 24, and then visit Washington on Halloween before closing with road trips to USC and Arizona State sandwiched around a home date with Utah.
