Tre Mason: (Hamstring) Full Practice Wednesday
DE Eugene Sims registered the sixth sack of the game by the Rams on the next-to-last play of regulation, but had to be helped off the field with an injury to his right knee.
Benny Cunningham started the opener and had 45 yards rushing and 77 yards receiving. Head coach Jeff Fisher said, “He was close”.
Notes: CB Trumaine Johnson (concussion) participated in stretching and individual drills, a positive sign for this week, but won’t be cleared until later in the week….
“I definitely would want to be playing, but I know it’s going to be a long journey”, Gurley said.
Mason, who aggravated a hamstring injury in the third preseason game against Indianapolis and has been out since, said afterward that he expects to be ready to play this week against the Washington Redskins. Week 2, however, may see the Rams unleash their future feature back.
Fisher said the final call on Gurley will be made with input from medical staff and team personnel, and wouldn’t be left up to Gurley or Fisher alone. “But I definitely feel comfortable with the offense for sure”.
“Just trying to take care of my body, staying in the cold tub”, Mason said.
So far this week, Fisher has yet to rule out Gurley for Sunday’s contest and Mason said he’s looking forward to seeing what the rookie can do.
But don’t expect Mason and Gurley to be the only running backs contributing Washington.
“It means a lot to me”, Austin said.
Fisher said Monday the news was better than expected on both players, who were injured in the opening 34-31 overtime win against the Seattle Seahawks. The Redskins held the Dolphins to 74 yards rushing, and will likely try to have a similar run defense set up against the Rams. Fisher said the defensive tackle’s ability to play every situation makes him so effective.
“We look at each other like brothers”. “We’re pretty confident in whoever’s back there”.
