National Football League exec: Ref didn’t tell Newton ‘you’re not old enough’
Not any more after a game-saving interception Sunday afternoon. “So it’s not a worry of mine or I don’t think it’s a worry on this team if that was to happen”.
Carolina quarterback Cam Newton rolled right not far from his own end zone in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter Sunday and took a hard hit at the out-of-bounds line by the Saints Tyeler Davison.
Costly drops helped to doom the New Orleans Saints’ offense against Carolina. “Jesus. I didn’t think you had to have seniority to get a personal foul or anything like that”, Newton said. “I tried to target the ball, and God gave me the wings to fly”.
The Saints quickly took a 3-0 lead on a 30 yard field goal by Zach Hocker. Quarterback Drew Brees threw for 255 yards and one touchdown in 24 of 38 passes.
Newton completed 20 of his 31 attempts for 315 passing yards and two touchdowns, and he added 33 yards and another touchdown on the ground.
The Pro Bowl tight end had eight catches for a career-high 134 yards.
“I was really baffled by what was said to me”, Newton said after the game (via the Charlotte Observer). “That’s what makes him such a valuable part of our offense”. “What hasn’t been said about Greg, just him being him”. After the penalty and re-kick, Marcus Murphy returned it 74 yards for a touchdown. Thank goodness the Saints botched the extra point. As the Browns were driving to tie the game, he threw a pick that allowed the Oakland Raiders to seal the victory. “Sooner or later, it is going to fall our way”. Four plays later Newton hit Olsen for his 2 TD of the day. His most recent start came in 2011 for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
And as you might imagine; some fans are looking for someone to blame for the Saints’ troubles (as evidenced by this fan-generated meme that has been circulating on Facebook and Twitter).
This won’t be the first acting experience for Newton, as the football player has starred in multiple commercials. “We just have to finish”. “We have to go back and look at things we did wrong”. “Go play to win”, Luke McCown said.
It was 10-10 at halftime. On one of New Orleans’ scoring drives, Klein failed to make a tackle in pass coverage and later was flagged for holding.
The Carolina Pathers want to distance themselves and they have the edge without Saints Drew Brees.
The Saints got the ball and thanks to some BS calls and a bad spot they drove to the 50 yard line.
“Tying the game at the half was big after being down 10-0”, Olsen said. After becoming injured against Tampa Bay last week, Brees spent the week trying to get back on the field for Sunday’s game, but was ruled out after he failed to generate velocity on his passes during a rehab session Friday morning.
It was the first game Brees has missed because of injury since joining the Saints in 2006.
The least surprising thing about the New Orleans Saints’ performance against the Carolina Panthers yesterday is they lost, 27-22. The Panthers signed WR Brenton Bersin from the practice squad and waived TE Brandon Williams. New Orleans elected to try for a 2-point conversion, but McCown’s pass to Marques Colston fell incomplete.
