Danny Pintauro from ‘Who’s the Boss’ is HIV-positive
Pintauro, now 39, revealed he’s HIV-positive during his appearance on Oprah’s Where Are They Now? this past Saturday. “I’m ready now”, EW quotes the former actor’s statement to Oprah.
Meanwhile, Light has been an outspoken advocate for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community for quite a few time, as evidenced by her involvement with the Matthew Shepard Foundation, the Point Foundation, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and other organizations. Now Judith Light, 66, his former Who’s The Boss co-star is speaking out about how proud she is of Danny for sharing his diagnosis. “You feel incredibly heightened when it comes to your sexuality, and everything sounds and feels exciting to you”.
“I’m HIV-positive and I have been for 12 years”, said Pintauro who came out as gay years ago. “It’s just a big deal. It’s not something people are talking about right now, really”.
“I was experimenting”, Pintauro said, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Asked if she is anxious about the actor’s HIV-positive diagnosis, the actress shares, “No, I wasn’t anxious because I knew he was taking responsibility for it, and I knew that he was taking care of himself”.
But Danny admitted that even before he knew was HIV-positive, he had been scared that he would contract the disease. When he met his husband during their first date, he said he revealed his diagnosis immediately.
Fans were shocked when Danny Pintauro confessed that he had been diagnosed with HIV.
Pintauro first came out as gay in 1997 after a National Enquirer reporter threatened to reveal his long-kept secret in the tabloid.
“[They] were going through what I was going through.”
Pintauro has serious goals and intentions, he said, and he wants to start a door-to-door campaign to make a difference with both issues. He contracted HIV around this time, the report relays. “I went in for a regular checkup”, he said. “We need to be the best we can – safe and healthy”.
