After days of pain, woman finds she was hit with bullet
Heather Charlebois, 42, of DeLand said after days of pain from what she initially thought was a firecracker because it did not bleed.
DELAND, Fla. (AP) A central Florida woman says she was shot in the leg while celebrating Independence Day but didn’t know it until doctors found the bullet days later.
Heather Charlebois and her friends were sitting at Café DaVinci, in the city of DeLand, listening to music around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
Following the incident, Charlebois said she feels lucky to be alive, according to the News-Journal. So she went to a hospital, got X-rays, and there it was – a.38-caliber bullet lodged in her thigh.
Police told the newspaper the bullet might have come from a gun that was sacked into the air from a distance. ‘I have four kids and we have been through a lot.’.
Charlebois told WKMG her leg still burns from the bullet and that she’s trying to stay positive: “It’s kind of surreal and cool and not cool, and it made me mad and it made me laugh”. Because the bullet was so close to her femoral artery, Charlebois was told that the bullet would remain where it was.
