United Airlines suffers 2nd major grounding in 2 months
By 9:40 am, 75 flights at United were delayed, which was the most amongst airline in the USA. “They are now up and running but as the day goes on-there may be additional delays and outages in the system”.
“We’re being told the United systems issue is affecting all flights, nobody is going anywhere”, wrote William Allison, who was briefly stranded at San Francisco global Airport.
This issue affected all United Airlines flights, except for some United Express flights – which are the ones that use smaller planes.
In an emailed statement, the carrier said it’s restoring flight operations and recovering from “network connectivity issues”, without providing further details on the problem.
The grounding occurred at about 6:30 a.m. Mountain Time, so there was little air traffic in Great Falls, according to Great Falls global Airport Director John Faulkner.
Last month, the airline halted all takeoffs in the United States due to what it described as computer automation issues.
Ross Howell of Zephyrhills waited with his partner at the airport Wednesday morning for more information about their flights.
The carrier has been struggling with problematic computer systems since its merger in 2010 between UAL its ex- parents and Continental Airlines that created the current United Continental. Officials at Hays Regional Airport are working to determine the impact on flights scheduled for Wednesday. A number of high-paying business travellers defected to other airlines and revenue dropped.
The stop affected passengers not only in the USA, but according to CNN, but also worldwide.
