Missouri Suspends Mauk For USC Game
With Mauk out, freshman Drew Lock, who has appeared in all four games, likely will get the first start of his career.
Junior quarterback Maty Mauk has been suspended for Saturday’s game against South Carolina, according to a statement from spokesperson Chad Moller. Offensive tackle Malil Cuellar is also suspened for Saturday’s game. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Dave Matter, both players’ statuses “will be evaluated after the game”. Mauk’s father, Mike Mauk, underwent cancer surgery on Monday and Mauk was expected to spend the day with his family in Springfield, Mo.
“Mauk, a 6’1”, 200-pound junior from Kenton, Ohio, is the Tigers starting quarterback and he has passed for 654 yards and six touchdowns (four interceptions) while completing 51.8 percent of his passes this season. He has thrown for 225 total yards. He hit 15 of 30 for 180 yards and a touchdown in the 21-13 loss to Kentucky that knocked the Tigers from the ranks of the unbeaten and out of the Top 25. Pinkel decided not to play Lock in the second half, citing a “gut feeling” against giving Lock another series.
