Nat Fyfe wins narrow Brownlow count-18
The real concern for Nat Fyfe and Fremantle is the risk of long-term damage.
The Australian Football League (AFL) has endured an “epic fail” after it congratulated the incorrect player for winning the esteemed Brownlow Medal. None more so than Rebecca Judd in 2004.
“I needed someone pretty sturdy to carry my bags the last couple of days so he got the call-up”, he said. “Congrats to Nat Fyfe on that 6 pack… It’s a group that’s hungry to be led and I’m really keen to lead”.
“You were 1A, I was 1B, you offered to change seats so Nathan could sit next to me”.
“What numbers were you guys in, remind me?”
Liam Shiels polled five and Bradley Hill four, while Luke Breust (three), Isaac Smith (three), Shaun Burgoyne (two) and Josh Gibson (one) also polled votes.
Sam Gilbert, who re-invented himself as an athletic midfielder late in the year, earned a vote for his 21 disposal of two-goal effort against Geelong in round 21.
Fyfe matched that record in 13 matches. The Pies polled 66 votes in total.
Fremantle’s season ended on Friday night with the preliminary final loss to Hawthorn.
“Everybody forgot I’m a professional footballer after last night”.
It would have been the ideal start to a career.
Fyfe was twice punished this year by the match review panel, for tripping and rough conduct, and would have again been ineligible had he been punished for a third time.
“Just seeing him play at the moment, this is a real concern”. Former Cat turned Tiger Taylor Hunt did though and it put him on top of the leaderboard.
“AFL apologises without reservation to all fans/supporters who have been misled as a count continues to proceed live in Melbourne”.
He somehow played out the game and was among the Dockers’ best.
“This is genuinely a team and Fremantle footy club medal”.
But as always, the frocks and the fashion on the red carpet were a talking point of the evening.
MAYBE the sub-rule isn’t so bad after all.
Mitchell polled three votes on six occasions – in Rounds 5, 8, 9, 10, 19 and 23.
RUCKMEN traditionally find it hard to poll in the Brownlow Medal.
Before last night, Billings had polled one Brownlow vote, while Dempster had tallied two and Roberton zero.
“But he had a big collision, a clash of legs in the first few minutes”.
