Brown University Revokes Bill Cosby’s Honorary Degree
Cocoa University has repealed the privileged degree it conceded Bill Cosby, turning into the third college to make such move in under a week.
Yet another school has severed its ties with comedian Bill Cosby, who has been accused of drugging and sexually assaulting dozens of women.
Cosby’s lawyer John Schmitt defended the 78-year-old comedian in a strongly written letter to Fordham University’s president Rev. Joseph McShane taking the school to task for its statement and maintaining Cosby’s innocence.
“In this case these criteria have clearly been met”, Paxson said.
Cosby has never been charged with any crimes related to sexual misconduct. “The statement issued by the university was so irresponsible as to shock the conscience”, Schmitt wrote. Dating back to the first Commencement in 1769, the Board of Fellows of the Brown Corporation has bestowed honorary degrees upon individuals of distinction and accomplishment, recognizing their leadership and contribution to society in a myriad of fields and disciplines. However, the news did not go down too well with the Cosby and his attorney sent a harshly worded letter condemning Fordham University on its action taken against his client.
He also stated that the statement grossly mischaracterizes both Mr. Cosby’s actions and his deposition testimony. Defendant Cosby knows that he drugged and raped Ms. Dickinson. On Thursday, Marquette’s Board of Trustees approved a resolution rescinding an honourary degree presented to Cosby in 2013.
Cosby, now 78, has denied the accusations, though has mostly avoided public comment on the matter. This degree was awarded to Cosby in 2001. His admission is the basis of the admission, they say.
The fallout from the controversy over the sex assault allegations has been swift.
Reruns of “The Cosby Show”, the landmark sitcom from the 1980s have already been pulled off. His tour dates have been scrapped.
