Seattle police: Officers shoot, wound man brandishing gun downtown
The incident unfolded at about 3 a.m. Tuesday after police received a 911 call about a man with a gun near the intersection of Second Avenue and Spring Street. Officers recovered the suspect’s weapon, which turned out to be a realistic-looking pellet gun. At a few point, police opened fire.
Medics took the suspect to the hospital, where officers plan to interview him to learn more about his state of mind and what he was doing.
Police released patrol dash-cam video that captured at least portions of both incidents.
In the second shooting, officers were called to the Northgate area around 4:45a.m.to investigate a report of a man breaking into a vehicle. See photo, above right.
Officers reportedly told the man to drop the gun.
The suspect fled east and ran to NE 100th Street and Roosevelt Way NE, where officers were involved in a confrontation with the man. One of the officers fired multiple rounds, striking the suspect. “Police attempted to use a Taser to disarm the man, but were unable to subdue him”, said a police statement. One officer can be seen yelling “drop the gun” repeatedly before and after firing. The audio soon cuts out because the suspect led officers out of the camera range.
Police have arrested a 55-year-old suspect in connection to the fight.
Officers placed evidence markers at the scene where shell casings landed, and Force Investigations Detectives have taken over the investigation.
The Office of Professional Accountability was also at the scene, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
