Two killed and three, including infant, hurt in Chicago shooting
The boy’s mother, who has been identified as Patricia Chew, 23, was shot in the right side, and the boy’s grandmother, 46, Lolita Wells, was shot in the leg, according to witnesses and the police.
11-month-old Princeton Chew was wounded and taken to the hospital.
Chicago police were looking for the occupants of a vehicle that reportedly opened fire on a group of people and drove off.
Guglielmi says the victims were targeted in a drive-by shooting.
“In a second, two generations of that child’s family were wiped out”.
A police officer who arrived on the scene rushed the boy to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The two women were pronounced dead at the hospital.
Shootings are rife in Chicago and murders are up 20 percent in the city from a year ago at this time, according to crime statistics.
The man, 26, was riding a bicycle in the 7100 block of South Winchester about 10:50 p.m. when a male walked out of a gangway nearby and opened fire, police said.
Earlier Monday, a shooting in the Washington Park neighborhood left one person wounded.
A 2-year-old boy was grazed by a bullet and listed in good condition after someone accidentally discharged a gun in his home early Tuesday morning. The child was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr.
Unfortunately, the latest shootings mark a bloody weekend in the neighborhood, with several shootings targeting multiple victims reported from South Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood in the last few days.
