Adrian Peterson nearly missed Sunday’s game after wife gave birth
In what can only be described as the most Philip Rivers pass of the day, the Chargers quarterback accurately hit the back of his offensive lineman’s helmet.
Through three games, the Chargers have one sack. Rivers has been sacked ten times this season, including four on Sunday. Left guard Orlando Franklin was carted off on Sunday with an ankle injury.
Right guard D.J. Fluker came in to the game with a bad ankle and center Chris Watt had a groin injury.
Philip Rivers finished 21 of 34 for 246 yards, one touchdown and one interception for an 81.2 passer rating. “It’s not on them at all“.
“I was able to coordinate things and it worked out”, he said.
Peterson could’ve had a third score, but fullback Zach Line took the first-and-goal carry late in the third quarter for a 24-7 lead. But he was able to get his wind back after a timeout and hang in there against a relentless Vikings pass rush.
Around 8:30 a.m. CT, Peterson called Vikings coach Mike Zimmer to give him an update on the situation. Peterson had just 31 yards in the first game of the season and while he had 134 yards in Week 2, Peterson also fumbled multiple times and did not get into the endzone.
“Just trying to will a touchdown when it really wasn’t necessary”. The inside linebackers are having a tough time, especially with the front three – save Corey Liuget on occasion – being dominated. He said he was “most sick about” the throw he forced to Stevie Johnson that Greenway grabbed after a deflection.
Up by three entering the second quarter, Peterson rushed for two yards to score his first touchdown.
The Vikings weren’t sure if Adrian Peterson would show up for Sunday’s game against the Chargers after his wife gave birth earlier that morning. In the first home game against San Diego since Peterson set the single-game rushing record in 2007, Peterson scored on a vintage 43-yard run around right end that included a vicious stiff arm on safety Jimmy Wilson.
Of course, no one is immune to the follies of throwing the football to the back of someone’s helmet – apparently – and all that was missing was a Rivers freakout to make this a complete moment. “He worked into certain things we wanted him to do…. That’s what the good ones do”.
Rivers was pulled for Kellen Clemens midway through the fourth quarter when the deficit reached 24 points.
After a tumultuous almost two years since his last appearance in the end zone in a Vikings game, Peterson was likely thrilled with the developments both on and off the field. But now we can say he’s officially back. I misjudged it. Unfortunately, we didn’t have many opportunities in the pass game after that. “Guys switching positions. They fought their butts off out there, but it wasn’t enough”. The second-year head coach brought more than just schemes and concepts to Minnesota, though – he instilled a mentality that has permeated every player in the Vikings locker room. They start Kendall Reyes at end, Sean Lissemore at nose tackle and Corey Liuget at defensive tackle in their 3-4 scheme. “We’ve been 1-2 before and won double digits. I’m not making any predictions but there’s a lot of football left”.
The key to this game is going to come through the air. Gordon, a first-round pick, had only 51 yards on 14 carries (3.6 yards per attempt).
