U.S. anti-abortion campaigner Troy Newman barred from entering Australia
That’s because Newman and Operation Rescue, the prominent anti-abortion organisation he runs, use tactics several grades above the already nasty stuff we’re used to seeing from anti-abortion activists in Australia.
Immigration Minister Peter Dutton has confirmed to News Corp Australia that he has cancelled Troy Newman’s visa after concerns were raised that his presence in the country could incite hate and violence against those women who have an abortion and the medical professionals who perform them. This responsibility rightly involves executing convicted murderers, including abortionists, for their crimes in order to expunge blood-guilt from the land and people…
A change.org petition with over 2,500 signatures, and a letter-writing campaign to politicians, appears to have paid off, with Immigration Minister Peter Dutton confirming this afternoon that Newman’s visa has been cancelled.
Turned away… Troy Newman is not allowed to enter Australia.
Newman has the right to appeal the decision, but any reversal is unlikely to take place in time for his scheduled speaking date on Friday.
Labor’s Terri Butler wrote to Mr Dutton this week calling for Mr Newman to be banned from the country.
The “pro-life” campaigner was set to speak on the topic “save the babies down under” at events in Melbourne, Hobart, Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns.
“It sends a strong message to those who would seek to cause discord in the community, and disrupt the ability of women to access lawful reproductive medicine”, Butler said.
Describing the move as “political persecution” on his website, Newman, has encouraged his supporters to contact the Australian embassy to ask the government to reverse the decision. And then on to Melbourne Australia. “It is clear that Planned Parenthood Federation of America does not want the truth to hit Austalia”.
The head of anti-abortion group Operation Rescue uploaded an angry Facebook video showing the moment airport staff told him the news, asking his followers to ‘pray for him’. In the video, he seems incredulous that the Australian government has the power to block his travel plans.
