Berkeley: Person under train closes Ashby BART station
The Alameda County coroner’s bureau identified the man Monday evening as 39-year-old Patrick New.
Bay Area Rapid Transit’s Ashby station in Berkeley was shut down Monday afternoon after a train hit a person on the tracks. Reports of a person under a train there came in at 12:24 p.m., BART officials said. BART police are investigating the incident.
“There is a station closure at Ashby due to a major medical emergency”, BART officials said in an advisory.
By 3 p.m., BART system service residual delays were around 10 minutes when the station reopened, were expected to fade as the evening commute got under way, Allison said.
Northbound trains are turning back at MacArthur BART and southbound trains are stopping at South Berkeley BART stations. BART tweeted that the delays on the Richmond line at Fremont, Richmond and Milbrae were “major”, as was the medical emergency.
