7-year-old boy finds $8k on playground, turns it in
His character was tested on Saturday morning when he found several thousand dollars at Memorial Park in Salem. His friends and teachers are proud of the fact that Aiden returned the money as soon as he found it, not even stopping to have second thoughts.
7-year old Aiden Wright found a small fortune at the park and knew exactly what he wanted to do with it. He turned it over to police.
“Officer asked him if he’s missing anything or got robbed and he fished in his pocket immediately and said I am missing $8,000”, said Lt. Matthew Desmond.
“I ran up the slide and there was the black check book”, Aidan said.
A 7-year-old boy turned in a checkbook to police that contained $8,000, police said. Twenty minutes later, the duo was summoned back because the checkbook owner had arrived and wanted to thank Aiden personally. Santos is a contractor and had taken his two children to the playground right after he was paid for a job.
“I am so grateful, you know, because we don’t have people like this no more”, says Santos. For his honesty, Santos gave Aiden $100. He also told WBZ that he was surprised when police called.
(Ellen Wright/Mom) “He’s been taught from day one to do the right thing”.
“Treat other people the way you want to be treated”, Aiden said.
Parents of Aiden Wright, 7, say they have always taught the boy to be honest.
He’s excited to use his reward money too.
(Aiden wright/found money) “I just did today”.
