Maryland Schools Earn National Blue Ribbon Recognition

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer applauded the Cardinal Hickey Academy in Calvert County on being selected as a 2015 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.

The award, given out by the U.S. Department of Education, recognizes TCHS’ success in closing the achievement gap for economically disadvantaged students. “You represent excellence-in vision, in implementation, and in results-and we want to learn as much as we can from you”.

Coleman said Amherst Junior High School didn’t apply for the award or go out looking for recognition.

“In 2009, Columbiana High School was honored as a Blue Ribbon School, so we are very excited to have our Middle School also be recognized as a Blue Ribbon School”, commented Donald Mook, Columbiana Exempted Village School District Superintendent. “Fountain Green Elementary continues to exceed the educational needs of each of their students, serving as an outstanding example of public education at its best”. Blue Ribbon winners may fly this flag at their schools as a mark of excellence.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools program, founded by former Secretary of Education Terrell Bell, has been in existence for 32 years.

“I am so proud of our students, staff, and parents at Vandergriff”, said principal Andrea Sego in a news release.

There were 285 public schools on the list, along with 50 private schools. “It’s really important for the way it changes things in our community”. Those students and faculty members who were at Fountain Green during the past several years should celebrate as well. They will be recognized at a ceremony in November.

Lake Shore is one of only nine Wisconsin schools and the only school in southeastern Wisconsin to receive this recognition.
