Samsung Gear S2 Hits Online Stores October 2nd
Samsung has announced its making the Gear S2 watch available for purchase in the US starting on Friday. Samsung has been targeting its Z1 Tizen smartphone at the emerging regions in Asia, where consumers are seeking a low priced alternative to Android and Apple powered devices. The watch will cost $299 for the original version and $349 for the higher end S2 Classic.
The Tizen OS smartwatches have been unveiled at the IFA 2015 in Berlin beginning of September. When paired with a Samsung Galaxy phone, the S2 can also handle contactless payments through Samsung Pay.
To recap, the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic are Tizen-based round smartwatches from Samsung that are arguably (OK, they are for a fact) the best looking Samsung watches to date.
The Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic have similar spec lists, including round 1.2-inch 360×360 Super AMOLED displays, 1GHz dual-core processors, 4GB of storage, and 512MB of RAM. The round shape that is for a few reason the big trend with Apple’s competitors is a matter of taste.
Samsung managed to get a first set of popular apps on Tizen OS.
Samsung will offer the Gear S2 with 3G connectivity which incorporates the first-ever e-SIM with voice capability. The regular Gear S2 sports a cleaner, more minimal aesthetic, while the Classic attempts to emulate a traditional timepiece. Pricing for that model hasn’t been revealed yet.
You’ll be able to buy one at Samsung.com, Amazon.com, Best Buy and Macy’s.
