Bryant, Arrieta make history in win over Milwaukee Brewers
But in all seriousness, I hope you’re happy, AC/DC.
Chicago added runs in the fifth and eighth innings off relievers Kyle Lohse and Corey Knebel, respectively. Bryant deservedly got a rousing ovation from the crowd as he accepted a curtain call.
Bryant is another who may be winning hardware after the season ends. It has been a down year for him, and we will have to see if he can recover from this.
Well okay, not the entire place, just the infield.
And that’s how Arrieta’s night went. Fortunately for them, the combination of starting pitcher Jake Arrieta and rookie sensation Kris Bryant should allow them to do that.
Anthony Gose drew a two-out walk from Zach Duke (3-6) in the 10th.
Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Jean Segura, left, collides with center…
The 23-year-old third baseman is now hitting.278 with 98 RBIs and an.876 OPS in his first 141 career games, in addition to his home-run prowess.
Check out Arrieta’s highlight reel from last night, during which he struck out 11 batters. He easily dispatched of Logan Schafer, who had attempted to murder Schwarber on a lined foul into the Cubs dugout for the second strike.
After an inauspicious start to their trip to Pittsburgh with a 5-4 loss in the matinee half of a Tuesday doubleheader, the Cubs bounced back for a 2-1 win in the nightcap behind a 5-hit complete game from Jon Lester. He’s 14-1 with a 0.94 ERA in this stretch.
As the Chicago Cubs move closer to securing their first postseason berth since 2008, they continue to enjoy everything about the experience. He’s the first Cub with at least three whitewashes in a single season since Greg Maddux in 1992 and became the first pitcher this season to get to 20 victories. He also lowered his ERA to 1.88, giving him a chance to become the Cubs’ first qualifying starter with a sub-2.00 ERA since Grover Cleveland Alexander had a 1.91 mark in 1920.
His ERA since the All-Star break is now a ridiculous 0.86-which would be the lowest in baseball since the All-Star Game began in 1933. Unbelievable.
As for passing Williams, Bryant said it’s been fun to get to know the Hall of Famer outfielder as he’s often hanging around the team. He needed that in a bad way. It is hard to imagine anything happening with the way Arrieta and Bryant are playing, especially when considering the rest of the team feeds off their energy. He was 2-for-4 with a homer, double, and 3 RBI, accounting for most of the Cubs offensive production.
