Black Women Who Were “Too Dark” To Enter London Club Protest Discriminatory
“He basically said, if she was going to bring black girls then they’ve got to be of “a certain calibre”.
When the women arrived at the club on the evening of Saturday, September 26, they were turned away.
The women claim that after being scrutinised at about 10.15pm they were barred from entering and told the club was full – but then saw more guests allowed to enter after them.
Dev from Radio 1’s early breakfast show tweeted that clubs in London’s West End were a few of “the worst I’ve ever experienced” but that it was something he’d noticed across the UK. When the promoter, who had initially given them approval, inquired about why they weren’t allowed in, he was informed that staff members felt that a few of the women were unattractive.
At this point it’s alleged the manager described the girls as “too dark” and “overweight” before refusing them entry.
“Manager of DSTRKT stated I and my thinner friend fine but other two girls are too fat and if they are black women or dark skinned they need to be very hot to gain entry”. According to Norton, she was advised by a senior staff member not to invite “too many Black girls” going forward.
“If [your] two girls are [too] over weight to get in the club that’s how it is, what the hell are you doing?”
She added: “It really pains me – that’s why I don’t really come to this sort of club any more”. I love people for who they are’. A group of women in the United Kingdom learned the hard way when they simply wanted to have a girls night out at one of London’s popular night clubs.
“I’ve taken nice-looking black customers to the door and they’ve not been let in and I’ve taken scruffy-looking white people to the door and they go in”.
Zalika Miller, another member of the group, said: “Come and peacefully make a stand with us along the “rejects wall” outside Dstrkt Nightclub at 10pm”. All the so called “uglies” and “fatties” come dressed to kill. “Bring banners/sheets, write on anything #doilookdstrkt”.
A protest was held outside Dstrkt last night following a social media campaign, with demonstrators photographed holding banners with the hashtag #DoILookDstrkt?
