NC State RB Shadrach Thornton arrested after hitting man with moped
One of the top offensive players for the NC State football team, which will host the University of Louisville on Saturday, was arrested Tuesday night upon accusations that he hit a pedestrian while riding on a moped.
“I haven’t had a chance to deal with it yet”, coach Dave Doeren said Wednesday afternoon on his regularly scheduled appearance on the Atlantic Coast Conference coaches’ teleconference. They charged him with failure to stop and render aid and failure to provide information.
This is not Thornton’s first time getting into trouble.
The News and Observer report notes Thornton also faces charges of operating a motor vehicle on a sidewalk and for operating an unregistered motor vehicle. He was suspended for the first two games of this season for a violation of team rules.
Lee Turner, Thornton’s Raleigh-based attorney, said Thornton cooperated with police.
Jodi Leese Glusco of WRAL reports police tracked down Thornton at his apartment after he left the scene of the accident.
He’s also been cited twice – in December 2013 and March 2014 – for possession of marijuana.
The court deferred prosecution until 2016. “I don’t know (Thornton)”. In each instance, charges were voluntarily dismissed. “I know of him now, but I don’t know the man, so I hold no grudge”.
Thornton was a preseason All-ACC selection after leading the Pack with 907 rushing yards and nine touchdowns a season ago.
