Kentucky governor’s race hits sports talk radio with scheduled Wednesday debate
The Republican Governor’s Association isn’t giving a reason for pulling the ads and said they could put them back on later.
Bevin and Conway had a few particularly testy exchanges throughout the debate with about one month to go in the country’s most competitive governor’s race.
The most recent public opinion poll showed Bevin and Conway in a statistical tie, with Drew Curtis taking 8 percent of the vote.
The race remains very close, but Republicans aren’t gaining much ground, the poll shows.
“We continually re-evaluate what role the RGA plays of how helpful we can be”, Thompson said, adding the decision does not mean the group has lost faith in Bevin’s chances of winning.
Paul is scheduled to speak at a rally for Matt Bevin at Kentucky State University. Independent Drew Curtis polled at 7 percent.
The association has spent $3 million on six ads for Bevin, mostly attacking his Democratic opponent, Jack Conway, for supporting the policies of Democratic President Barack Obama. Republicans said Bevin is doing fine and point to a new TV ad he is debuting Wednesday.
A Bevin spokesperson said the new ad, which Bevin is paying for himself, will feature his family, similar to one he ran in the Republican primary. The ad says hospitals are struggling financially and insurance premiums have increased since the act was passed.
Conway, a Democrat, reiterated his positions on early childhood education and health care while not answering a question about who he would vote for president if the election were held today. “I think the world of Rand”.
On October 25, the gubernatorial candidates will debate at Eastern Kentucky University in a statewide televised event sponsored by WKYT, WLKY in Louisville, and the League of Women Voters of Kentucky.
