Chicago family gunned down
Shootings are rife in Chicago and murders are up 20 percent in the city from past year at this time, according to crime statistics.
The two women were pronounced dead at the hospital.
Detectives were questioning a male relative of the boy in connection with the incident Tuesday morning, police said. Police said the mother was 24 and the grandmother was 46.
The most recent nonfatal shooting occurred Monday night when a man was shot and critically wounded in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. Roy says one was in critical condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital, and other suffered injuries that aren’t life-threatening.
The 11-month old was “stable” at Stroger Hospital after being taken there by an officer on the scene, according to Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.
One of the men, 25, was shot in the abdomen and the other, 24, was shot in both legs, police said. The baby underwent a Connecticut scan and has non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said at a Monday evening press conference that the women had died. The boy was going to stay at the hospital for observation overnight, they said.
All of those hurt were taken to area hospitals for treatment. “He made the right call”.
Earlier information incorrectly indicated that a second child had been injured in the shooting. The shooting took place at about 7:10 p.m.
The other shooting victims were adults. The ground crackled slightly as police vehicles slowly came and went.
“Come on!” the first girl insisted. New City contains the neighborhoods of Canaryville and Back of the Yards.
