Manuel Pellegrini insists Manchester City have not failed in Europe
Manchester City manager, Manuel Pellegrini, has compared his side to the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, insisting the crop of players in the team have got what it takes to win this year’s champions league title.
The Switzerland worldwide said: “It is always good to win games, of course”.
“Last year (we) were in a complicated situation and we won our last two games”. I think the amount of injuries we have had has been more important.
City will have to find a way to succeed without captain Vincent Kompany, still out with a calf injury. “We have a strong squad but not strong enough to sustain 11 injuries”. “I doubt if Manchester City even know all our players but I am sure once the game is over they will know plenty of us”.
One player who will be available is Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, who has scored for City in each of their last three games, and and the former Wolfsburg man will be familiar with Die Fohlen from his time in the Bundesliga.
“Joe had a problem with his back during the week”, Pellegrini said.
Borussia Mönchengladbach may be one of the famous names in Europe but they are the weakest team in what for City is another hard group.
Pellegrini tried to play down the absence of his inspirational skipper, as Martin Demichelis and Nicolas Otamendi are again set to be partnered in defence.
Injured midfielders David Silva and Yaya Toure trained with their team-mates as Manchester City prepared to face Borussia Monchengladbach in the UEFA Champions League. After the surprise resignation of Lucien Favre last weekend, Gladbach have won their last two fixtures since – so they’ll be quietly confident about their chances of adding more misery to the Premier League’s title favourites.
Borussia Monchengladbach were last season’s surprise package in the Bundesliga, finishing third behind Bayern Munich and VfL Wolfsburg, but they have struggled to match that form so far this season.
“Gladbach were doing very badly earlier this season”, the Belgium worldwide said.
“Had I stayed in Germany I would have been really happy“, he said.
Yeah, baby! Can’t think what De Bruyne’s goal celebration might be if he scores, can you?
City will be hoping de Bruyne can create more good memories on Wednesday and ignite their Euro campaign. “Obviously me, my girlfriend and our families are looking forward to it”.
