Cody Parkey Out for Season, Eagles to Sign Caleb Sturgis
Parkey’s groin injury caused him to miss some games in the preseason.
“He did play in the game for us, and he kicked well when he was in the game”, Kelly said at a Monday press conference, giving no hint the Eagles were prepared to put Parkey on the disabled list.
Place-kicker Caleb Sturgis will sign with the Philadelphia Eagles, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, confirming multiple media reports.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported the news. Parkey is three for 4 on his field goal makes an attempt this season & made his lone attempt from 30 yards in Sun.’s 24-17 win over the New York NY Jets.
The Eagles had serious concerns at kicker heading into the 2014 season when Alex Henery and Carey “Murderleg” Spear had one of the most uninspiring kicker competitions you’ll ever see. The injury has, per Garafolo, spurred the Eagles and head coach Chip Kelly to hold tryouts to find a potential replacement for Parkey should he be unable to go against the NFC East rival Washington Redskins this weekend. Parkey had an MRI done Monday afternoon, something obviously made Kelly change his mind and shut Parkey down for the season.
Sturgis was the Dolphins’ fifth-round pick in 2013 after an All-American career at Florida.
