‘Empire’ Episode 2 SPOILERS: More Prison Drama For Lucious On ‘Without A
Unaware, Andre sets off on his own path back to Empire, delivering the episode’s most tender moment as he delicately begs Cookie to let him leave.
It’s a little unusual, but at the same time they are the same. Luscious discovers the guard has been secretly keeping his medicine away.
Jamal is doing a TV interview on a show called, I kid you not, Spilling the T. Andre isn’t too happy with Hakeem running things without permission.
Andre, Cookie and Hakeem are seen cleaning out their desk and trudging through the lobby at Empire with their box of belongings – they’ve all been given the boot by Jamal who considers the traitors. I think he’s even said, if he had to choose, it would be music.
Hakeem holds auditions and a familiar face shows up! She claims the Instagram posting – casting via Instagram?
It’s something he really believes in and he’s certainly not ready to give up on it. Yes, he will continue to fight for his girl group. “Mom, this is not me”, he says sadly, begging her to let him to – but to where? Becky was right, her character is certainly the mini version of Cookie.
When Jamal closed that door on Cookie last week, shivers went down my spine because I was hoping that that would begin his descent into Corleone-dom. Because that also happened. In a classic bit of Cookie psychological warfare, she reminds her favorite child that he should be sympathetic to his brother, who has experienced their father’s cruelty. A lawyer by the name of Thirsty (Andre Royo) overhears the conversation and offers up his services. Lucious decides to hire Thirsty.
Cookie’s new label, Lyon Dynasty, is ripping apart the family with Hakeem on her side, and then Andre and Jamal on Lucious’ side.
The prison has “misplaced” Lucious’ paperwork to administer his ALS meds. Shortly after they finished, Officer McKnight and other guards came in to detain the inmates. But before Lucious’ release , somebody- ahem, Thirsty – arranges for Officer McKnight to get jumped while he’s carrying the masters from the track Lucious recorded.
Everything went from zero to 100 real quick. I’m going to be treated differently than the next guy, depending on what area I’m in, the color of my skin, it plays a partI have better fashion sense than Thirty, Thirsty has no fashion sense, whatsoever. He wants to build his own legacy, and he leaks his unreleased album online. This move causes Andre become upset and to leave the start-up company. When Andre asks Lucious if he can return to Empire Records and receives an inevitable “no”, it’s supposed to highlight Lucious’ coldness – but we already know about that. Jamal is forgiving and is thrilled at the idea of being an uncle, so he says he’ll talk to Lucious.
“It’s just so much stuff.I would give anything to just hand that off to Andre”. Luscious then remembers his mother sang to him. And, he knows that helping somebody like Lucious Lyon will go a long way in his career.
After last week’s breathless opener, Empire slowed the pace this week, so we can absorb the reality of the new normal: Lucious is still incarcerated. I loved, loved working with him, and Lucious and Jamal will definitely work together. Cookie asks Jamal to release little baby traitor’s – AKA Hakeem -album from Empire and Jamal seems open to the idea.
“Damn, that’s hot”, Cookie said after hearing Lucious’ new song on the radio.
‘You don’t worry enough, Cookie’ Another celebrity cameo … You learn a lot of things, and we reveal them slowly – it’s a very slow burn over the course of the season. And what can we expect, now that we’ve seen her in flashbacks as Lucious’ mother?
