Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool to compete in new league, says
Talk of introducing Celtic and Rangers into the English system has always been mooted, though Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has openly opposed the notion.
“I think we’re a better team than we were previous year”.
Speaking to Sky Sports News headquarters from the Dunhill Links golf event in Scotland, Desmond, who previously held a stake in Manchester United, said: “I think it is inevitable there will be changes in football”.
But today Desmond is adamant Celtic and Rangers will head south.
Meanwhile, Kris Commons hailed Robin van Persie and Nani as world class but the Celtic midfielder is not fazed by Fenerbahce tonight “They are world-class so I regard them very highly”, Commons said. “I think it is inevitable there will be changes”. He asks questions about the next move and what we will do.
“Before it was a monopoly with either terrestrial TV or satellite TV, now everybody has the ability to broadcast their results and performances”.
“Maybe it’s going to be 10 years but it’s inevitable”.
“I think it because like in Italy and in Spain you have the bigger clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid who negotiate their own football contracts because they are more advantageous”.
Ronny Deila’s Scottish champion has failed to progress to the UEFA Champions League group stage for the second straight season, while Rangers is in the Championship after it was unable to win promotion a year ago as it continues its bid to return to the top level after being relegated to the fourth tier after financial meltdown in 2012.
“But Celtic is a team that should have the opportunity to play in the best league and hopefully in the end we can get into the (English) Premiership or a league that is more of a British thing”.
A lack of comparable television revenue is often cited as a reason for Scotltish clubs’ struggles to progress in Europe and rival Premier League sides for playing talent.
Ronny Deila has expressed his appreciation of Dermot Desmond’s public declaration of support for him as Celtic manager and says the Irish billionaire provides him with the inspiration to succeed in the job.
