Animals ‘do not have rights,’ says British Princess Michael
They don’t have bank accounts.
Her comments have not gone down well on social media, with many shocked that an animal’s right depends on whether they pay taxes.
As sure as the chicken follows the egg, or the egg follows the chicken, animal rights campaign group PETA locked horns with the princess, calling her comments “daft”, “ignorant”, and oblivious to the fact “people are now waking up to the view that legal rights should not be determined by species”.
Princess Michael of Kent’s gift for making forthright remarks is so well observed in royal circles that, by her own admission, she is prohibited from speaking to the press.
Instead, she said, human beings have an “obligation” towards them.
The princess, married to the Queen’s cousin Prince Michael of Kent, is regularly pictured wearing fur and has clashed with animal rights campaigners over the issue. “You earn your rights”.
Elisa Allen, associate director of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) urged the princess to exercise caution in opining at all on animal rights issues.
Well, I’m a great animal lover and involved in a lot of conservation, but animals don’t have rights.
Following a vote by the town council, pets were classed as “non-human residents”, giving them similar rights to its citizens. “You earn your rights”.
“They were press-ganged, like they were in England”, she said.
It isn’t often that you’ll be on the receiving end of an expletive ridden insult from an award winning comedian, but if Princess Michael of Kent checked her Twitter timeline this morning, she would have found herself in that very situation.
Remember, this is the same princess who reportedly told a group of black bankers and lawyers in a restaurant to “get back to the colonies.”
“In January 2014, The Express reported that the ‘Outspoken Princess Michael of Kent has been banned from giving interviews amid fears she might embarrass the Royal Family while promoting her next book”. She later claimed to have been misunderstood and the allegation of racism was a “knife through the heart”.
