Brigham Young University in Idaho Bans Man Buns

BYU’s student newspaper The Scroll has reported that the university will ban the man bun, effective immediately. The campus honor code stipulates that hairstyles should be “clean and neat, avoiding extreme styles or colors and trimmed above the collar leaving the ear uncovered”.

You might have heard just lately that the man bun (or any bun held hostage in a hair tie days on finish) may cause a receding hairline, baldness towards the temples, and breakage.

“All employees and students at BYU-Idaho are obligated under the Honor Code to ‘encourage others in their commitment to comply with the Honor Code, ‘” [Student Services & Activities Vice] President [Kevin] Miyasaki said.

A further examination of the school’s dress and grooming standard also revealed that beards, under any circumstances, are not allowed.

By living the dress and grooming standards consistent with the teachings of Jesus Christ we show modesty, obedience, self-respect and create a wholesome and professional environment.
