Matthew Vaughn Signs on to Direct Spy Thriller I Am Pilgrim
The Hollywood Reporter has just announced that Vaughn has signed with MGM to produce and direct a different sort of spy flick in I AM PILGRIM. The trail leads the protagonist on an worldwide manhunt and uncovers a plot that could threaten the existence of the United States itself. It’s likely that Kingsman 2 will be up next on Vaughn’s slate, but that’s not yet been confirmed.
I am Pilgrim “follows “Pilgrim“, code name for a man who doesn’t exist”. He’s now working on a second novel in the series and will also craft the initial version of the movie’s screenplay.
Again, the synopsis doesn’t really do much for me, but Vaughn injects a fun energy into his films. Now in anonymous retirement, he is called upon to lend his expertise to an unusual investigation but ultimately becomes caught in a terrifying race-against-time to save America from oblivion. The thriller – based on Terry Hayes’ novel – centers on a former intelligence agent whose book on forensic pathology is used to commit untraceable crimes. Andrew Mittman will executive produce while Lloyd Braun will serve as producer.
I Am Pilgrim saw massive success as a novel, translated into more than 30 languages after landing on a number of US best-seller lists including the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times, and earning the title of best-selling debut of 2014 in the United Kingdom. “His sensibility, coupled with Terry Hayes’ incredible story, gives us the ideal team to bring this character to the world wide audience”.
Vaughn is repped by WME, Brillstein Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham LLP.
