Major Music Festival May Be Coming to Queens

Tom Russell, of Governors Ball, told us today, “New York City is big enough for two music festivals but the proposed timing of this sets up an unnecessary rivalry”. “Coachella could be coming to Queens” reports the always hyperbolic Daily News – and that’s not entirely true or feasible. The promoters of Governors Ball, who run independently and wish to remain so, obviously aren’t thrilled with the competition that AEG Live would bring to the table – especially with their festivals being only two weeks apart.

AEG Live, the production company behind massive festivals like Coachella in Indio, Calif. and Firefly in Dover, Del., wants to bring a brand new festival to New York next summer, EW has learned.

According to the Daily News, the fest is tentatively called Panorama and it would go down in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

And while many would welcome a major Coachella-inspired music festival on the East Coast (hello, revenue), certain people are unhappy with the rumors.

But they have had better luck elsewhere.

Coachella unveiled its lineup on Tuesday morning, with Drake, AC/DC and Jack White as headliners.

A spokesman for AEG declined to comment on the talks.

An economic study of the potential festival calculates if Panorama does indeed touch down in the borough of Nas and LL, the city could stand to make a smooth $40 million, which is great an all, but the borough President Melinda Katz has a few reservations.

The company has also started recruiting acts for the 2016 event, the newspaper reported.
