Person with knowledge of deal: Timberwolves agree to send Chase Budinger to
The Indiana Pacers have acquired Chase Budinger from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Damjan Rudez, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo!
Yahoo Sports notes Budinger likely lost out on playing time because of Minnesota’s depth at small forward. Budinger played in 131 of a possible 246 games across his three seasons with the Wolves, including 67 games last season.
Budinger used his player option in April and will be paid $5 million in 2015-16, while Rudez will be paid $1.1 million next season.
Budinger averaged 6.8 points and three rebounds in 19.2 minutes for the Timberwolves last season, and showed promise early in his career.
He’s also 29 years old, so there isn’t much projection left.
The deal is reportedly set to be finalized by the end of the day.
The Wolves preference, no doubt, would be to trade Anthony Bennett to alleviate the logjam at the four spot, freeing up minutes for a number of players, but there’s no telling when or if that will happen.
