Woman gets billed for missing wedding
A Minnesota woman says she received a request for $75.90 after she and her husband had to skip a wedding last minute when their babysitter fell through, according to KARE11 News.
“She called at the last minute and had something come up and said ‘I can’t make it, ‘ ” said Jessica Baker.
“You’ve got to be kidding me”, Baker said in an interview.
The invoice that Jessica Baker and her husband received from the bride and groom was for a total of $75.90.
Baker says she had to miss the wedding because her mother could no longer babysit their children.
After the cake has been wrapped up, the champagne popped and the chicken-or-fish dinner eaten, most wedding guests get a thank you note in the mail. “What the right thing to do would have been”, she told KARE-TV.
“We were excited to have a night out and we got a call from my mom saying that my brother’s daughter was sick with hand-foot-and-mouth disease and my mom had been exposed and didn’t want to expose my kids”, Baker recalled. If you go into debt to throw a wedding, it’s important to make a plan to pay it down, but putting that on the backs of guests not only kills the spirit of celebration, most people would agree that it’s rude, or at least impolite.
Baker says she had no contact with anyone from the wedding until a few days later when the brother of the bride – with whom her husband has the closer relationship – called.
“I’ve worked in catering for years”. Baker has since revived over 2,000 opinions about her situation.
“This is kind of the wild story”, said Sarah Baumann Rogers.
KARE posted a picture of the bill to its Facebook page.
Do you think Baker should pay the bill, or did the bride take things too far?
Baker does know however that she is not paying the bill – and also has yet to send the couple a gift or card.
The cancellation was so inconvenient that she sent off a bill to recoup her losses.
