Suns deal Marcus Morris to Pistons
Morris was introduced Friday by the Detroit Pistons, who acquired the 25-year-old forward from Phoenix in what was basically a salary dump by the Suns.
The Pistons, however, said they covered all the bases when they traded for Morris, forward Danny Granger and guard Reggie Bullock for a second-round pick. “I feel bad that some of the off court stuff overshadowed his performance”, McDonough said. “That was kind of a slap in the face”. Im happy to be here.
With Brandon Knight and Eric Bledsoe up top and Morris and Chandler down low, the Suns become a threat in the Pacific Division just under the Golden State Warriors.
In Phoenix this past season, Marcus started in 35 of his 81 appearances, but butted heads with coach Jeff Hornacek and only played 25.2 minutes a game – averaging 10.4 points and 4.8 rebounds while making 35.8% of his 3-pointers. “They were just as good as anybody in the league”.
“I hope he does well wherever he’s at”, Marcus said, “if it’s Phoenix or wherever.”
I have a chance to be able to come in and really play.
“This gives me a chance to branch out”. “He’s a basketball player, I’m a basketball player. I’m ready to get started”.
“I’ll probably have more opportunities than I had in Phoenix, so I’m definitely looking forward to that part”, Marcus said.
Morris does have some pending legal trouble.
As for trading him without his consent and without warning? But he expects the case to be cleared up soon. I will be playing this season and that will be over soon..
I think first of all, great toughness, Van Gundy said. “He’s a guy who never takes a step back from anybody”.
“He’s a versatile player”.
“He rebounds his position”.
“Now I think we’ve got two guys with size, strength and quickness that can get in there and battle at that spot”. He can shoot the 3 and shoots it without hesitation, which is something that I like.
“We can take him down into the post and isolate him”. If you look at his numbers, hes a very efficient down there. They shared the same house, got the same tattoos, went to the same school (Kansas) and were playing on the same National Basteball Association team.
“We would put him in pick-and-rolls and create problems, ” Van Gundy said. He can play inside or out and handle the ball and shoot.
One other thing the Pistons liked about the 6-foot-9, 235-pound Morris is his contract. But it wasnt. We went and chased a couple of free agents. But beyond that we didnt really chase anybody at that point.
The circumstances surrounding the Morris twins signing extensions was unconventional – they agreed on the total number, then the brothers chose to divide it up: Markieff took a $32 million deal, Marcus took a $20 million deal.
Hes a guy coming into the prime of his career.
