Baby Born Without Skull Celebrates First Birthday
Despite the fact that celebrating his birthday is a momentous and glorious milestone for baby Jaxon, it also reminds his parents that he has lived because he defied all odds but the reality of his having a short life is not lost to them.
“Yes, there will be difficulties and struggles and limitations, but they recognize their family, they learn to communicate, and Jaxon is certainly on his way in all of those aspects”, he wrote.
A baby boy born with most of his skull missing celebrated his first birthday despite doctors predicting he would only live for days after being born. Both parents recalled being heartbroken over the news. “It took all the joy away from me”. “We were given a child, we are given a chance and we have to be his voice”.
When Jaxon Buell was born, he wasn’t expected to make it past a month. His first days were spent in the Winnie Palmer Hospital’s neonatal intensive care.
When Jaxon’s mother, Brittany, went in for a routine ultrasound during her pregnancy, doctors were unable to explain the abnormal shape of his head.
“It is always in the back of my mind. I’m aware tomorrow he may not be here”, Brittany said. The miracle baby’s story then went viral, earning about $95,000 in donations and with close to 200,000 Facebook supporters.
When the parents of 13-month-old Jaxon Buell were told their son had a severe birth defect and may not survive past birth, they didn’t know what to expect. “We’re still simply an everyday couple who chose to give their son a chance, and we are so proud of him for fighting each precious day and for making this world a better place with a little more hope than there was yesterday”.
